This Monarda prefers dry conditions and full sun. If you are planting for habitat you cannot, NOT have this plant! Yes it can look scraggly at the end of summer- but it has amazing pollinator activity all season and gorgeous winter interest. I love how many different insect species I see on these flowers- from clearwing moths, to multiple butterfly species to native wasps- a very entertaining plant!
