This little known but magical plant in the mint family is on the decline. It is considered an indicator species of a healthy forest. It blooms profusely in moist shaded woodlands in July when not a lot of other plants are blooming in a woodland. The flowers smell like lemon. A nice addition to a yard woodland garden for mid summer pollinator support and beauty. It is a specialized host to the Stoneroot Owlet Moth and Yellow Stoneroot Borer Moth, both also on the decline.
