This plant thrives in wet to moist conditions. It is found locally in wet meadows, bogs and swamps. The flowers are helmet shaped hence the common name ‘skullcap’ and it was once thought this plant could cure rabies which influenced the other half of the common name ‘mad dog’. It is a lovely plant, slightly more understated than Hoary Skullcap, but better suited to wet areas.
