Ohio Spiderwort (Tradescantia ohioensis) is very adaptable tolerating sand, clay, and other tough sites. It has an interesting method of blooming in morning and closing its flowers in the afternoon. Ohio Spiderwort is a crucial early-season food source for numerous pollinators, especially bumblebees, native bees (like sweat bees and mason bees), butterflies, and skippers, providing valuable pollen and nectar as one of the first plants to bloom in spring. I like to pair it with Smooth Penstemon because there bloomtimes overlap and it offers structural support; spiderwort can get a bit floppy. It can be cut low once done blooming.
